Lighting Study for Science & Research: Glebe

The brief for this project was to install customised lighting fixtures to a medical research facility, enabling them to study circadian rhythms regarding the effects
of different lighting colour and quantity
on the brain.

Highly specialised light fittings were installed in the ceiling of a research
suite where overnight observation would take place. Sourced and purchased from an international supplier, the lights
can produce any colour on the visible spectrum and cost approximately
$3000 each.

The lights are controlled separately from the facility’s main lighting control system. They are fully dimmable and controlled
via an observation control PC.

The 60mm-thick ceilings consist of three stacked layers of 20mm fire-rated
gyprock. Due to the nature of the site, Urban adhered to stringent restrictions regarding sound-proofing and fire-proofing during the marking-out, pre-wiring and fitting-off phases.

Urban carried out all project
co-ordination, electrical labour
and commissioning inhouse.
